(Bozeman, Mont. May 29, 2018) — We Recycle Montana is proud to announce the launch of glass recycling for the general public. The paid program will begin Wednesday, May 30, 2018. You can recycle your glass at 357 Recycle Way in Bozeman, off Jackrabbit Lane at Hulbert Road.
The cost will be $7 up to 50 lbs. and then .10 per pound after that. The fee will cover the cost of crushing and transporting the glass.
“Glass is a flat commodity, meaning there is no real return on it. For us, offering glass recycling fills an emotional need for our community.” – Dave Leverett, Co-owner
Crushed glass can be used for various applications locally, however, aggregate is readily available and more economical. The crushed glass will be shipped to Momentum Recycling in Utah. It is recycled to various specs and then shipped to manufacturing facilities that make glass bottles and insulation.
When you choose to recycle glass, you use materials that have already been harvested from nature. When you make it from scratch, you need a whole host of mined products that need to be transported and then melted at high temperatures, which all require lots of energy and resources.
Glass can also be recycled for a fee through curbside service with Gone Green or J&K Recyclers.
Glass recycling guidelines:
- Glass cannot be put in comingled or single-stream containers, you must keep it separate from other recyclables to prevent contamination
- These items are not recyclable: porcelain, ceramics, mirrored glass and laminated glass
- Glass cannot be left at the Gallatin County public drop-off sites. It will jeopardize the program.
- Glass must be free of liquid and food
Recently rebranded as We Recycle Montana, Four Corners Recycling, Full Circle Recycling and Full Circle Biofuels operate under one roof and collaboratively provide an array of commercial recycling in Southwest Montana from scrap metals to used cooking oil. Leverett started Full Circle cardboard recycling in 1994 out of the back of a pick-up truck. He later co-created Four Corners Recycling with Keith Hokanson, which proudly recycles for Yellowstone National Park.
